Physical Examination

Epicondylitis / Olecranon Bursitis



Common Examination Components:

(You are likely to be expected to examine the common components in each case)

Introduction e.g. ‘What you have told me suggests I need to examine your elbow. Can you roll your sleeves  up above elbow height’  (ensure the elbow is fully exposed)

Inspection Inspect for swelling, deformity and range of movement (flexion and extension).

Palpation Palpate for tenderness over the epicondyles

Manoeuvres Test supination and pronation against resistance to reproduce epicondylitis pain
